Virtual Battery
Sell your surplus solar energy to the grid and lower your bill even more. We handle it for you, free of charge.
What is a virtual battery?
A virtual battery is a system that lets you compensate the surplus energy your panels produce that you don’t use at the time. Instead of giving that energy away to the grid, your electricity supplier credits it against your bill.
It isn’t a physical battery — it’s a compensation mechanism on your electricity tariff. It works like a credit balance that’s automatically deducted from your bill each month.
How much can I save with a virtual battery?
The saving depends on how much surplus energy you produce. Around midday, when your panels generate more than your home consumes, that surplus is exported to the grid and compensated at between €0.05 and €0.10 per kWh.
For a typical 10-16 panel installation without a physical battery, the virtual battery can mean an additional saving of €15 to €40 per month, depending on your consumption and production.
We handle the tariff change for you
To benefit from surplus compensation, you need to be on a tariff with self-consumption modality. We take care of everything:
- We analyse your current tariff
- We find the best electricity supplier for your case
- We process the tariff change
- We register the self-consumption with surplus compensation
This service is included at no extra cost with every installation.
Physical battery or virtual battery?
They aren’t mutually exclusive — you can have both. The physical battery stores energy for your night-time use. The virtual battery compensates surplus that even the physical battery doesn’t absorb.
The ideal combination to maximise savings is: panels + physical battery + virtual battery. That way you cover your daytime consumption (panels), your night-time consumption (physical battery) and any remaining surplus is compensated (virtual battery).
